Staying Close
Staying close is for young people who have been in one of Newcastle children’s services residential homes and have moved into their own property. We recognise the move from residential care to independent living can be very challenging and that there isn’t the option to ‘stay put’ in most children’s homes. In addition to your LCSO, you will also get a ‘staying close worker’, who will support you intensely for up to two years. This support is around making sure you have all the skills to live independently as an adult. This needs to be discussed with your social worker, residential home, the staying close team, independent reviewing officer and care team and agreed prior to you turning 18.
